Where will you be working?
As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.
Reporting to the Head of Technology Assets & Value, the CMDB & Environments Manager will be responsible for establishing, governing and continuously improving M Group Technology's Configuration Management Database (CMDB), service mapping and environment management capabilities across the technology estate. You will define and implement the processes, controls and governance required to ensure configuration, service, application and environment data remains accurate, trusted and fit for purpose.
Working closely with Service Owners, Product Teams, Architecture, Service Operations, Security, Technology Asset Management, managed service partners and the ITSM Tooling Product Manager, you will drive the maturity of configuration and environment management practices across the organisation. You will play a key role in ensuring technology inventory systems effectively populate the CMDB through robust integrations and data quality controls, while developing service mapping capabilities that support change impact assessment, major incident management, service availability and informed operational decision-making.

What will you be doing?
Take ownership of M Group Technology’s CMDB, service mapping and environment management capabilities, ensuring accurate, trusted and accessible configuration data is available to support business and operational decision-making.
You’ll lead the development and adoption of governance standards, processes and controls that improve data quality, visibility and accountability across technology services, applications, infrastructure and their dependencies.
Working closely with Service Owners, Product Teams, Architecture, Security, Service Operations and managed service partners, you’ll establish and maintain robust service mapping for business-critical services, enabling effective impact assessments, operational resilience and informed decision-making.
A key part of the role will involve driving continual improvement in CMDB data quality by overseeing integrations with technology inventory, discovery and asset management systems, ensuring configuration data remains accurate, complete and relevant across the technology estate.
You’ll also govern production and non-production environments, providing visibility of ownership, dependencies, lifecycle and availability requirements to support change planning, release management, service continuity and risk reduction.
By championing the use of configuration and dependency data across service management processes, including Change, Major Incident, Problem and Availability Management, you’ll help enhance service governance, support technology transformation and improve operational maturity across M Group.
What you'll bring
Essential
- Proven experience managing CMDB, Configuration Management or ServiceMapping in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong understanding of ITIL practices, including Change, Major Incident and Availability Management.
- Experience with ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping or similar ITSM platforms.
- Knowledge of configuration data governance, data quality and process controls.
- Understanding of applications, infrastructure, cloud services and service dependencies.
- Experience developing and maintaining service maps and configuration relationships.
- Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working across multi-supplier and managed service environments.
- Ability to drive governance, adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.
- ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent.
Desirable
- ServiceNow certifications, such as CSA, CIS Discovery or CIS Service Mapping.
- Experience with ITOM, HAM, SAM, monitoring or discovery tools.
- Experience delivering CMDB or Service Mapping improvements within large-scale transformation programmes.
- Knowledge of enterprise architecture, operational resilience or service continuity.
- Experience working in outsourced, SIAM or regulated environments.
- Ability to produce senior leadership reporting and insights on CMDB health, data quality and service dependencies.
