Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Electricity Transmission team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing?
- Support the safe and efficient delivery of electrical installation activities within National Grid substations, working under the direction of the Mechanical Chargehand, Site Supervisor or Site Manager.
- Carry out electrical fitting works on high voltage equipment including switchgear, transformers, busbars, disconnectors, and associated HV apparatus.
- Install control and protection panels, support systems and associated earthing.
- Assist the electrical team with cable installation activities such as containment fitting, cable pulling, routing, dressing, glanding, terminating, and connection to HV/LV equipment.
- Install, connect, and test earthing systems including earthing links, rods, and bonding to National Grid standards.
- Correctly set and adjust HV equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
- Undertake maintenance on existing transmission assets.
- Conduct maintenance, inspections, and fault finding on HV/LV equipment under supervision, escalating complex issues to senior engineers.
- Operate tools and equipment safely (e.g., MEWP, abrasive wheels, hand tools, harness systems) in line with MGroup and National Grid procedures.
- Work within National Grid safety instructions including NSI 2, NSI 6, NSI 8, NSI 24, and impressed voltage requirements, ensuring all tasks follow permit to work controls.
- Provide accurate feedback on progress, quality, and issues, contributing to safe, compliant, and efficient site operations.
What you’ll bring
- Recognised mechanical apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering / Fitting / Maintenance. (People with relevant experience in the field will be considered)
- Competent in the installation of heavy mechanical equipment and structural components
- Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical and civil drawings
- Current CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport.
- Full UK driving license.
- IPAF 3a & 3b Qualifications
