Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
We are seeking a Project Director to join our Energy Division at M Group where you will be part of our Renewables business. The projects you will be looking after will be in a regulated and non regulated market.
You'll create clear project plans, manage budgets, track progress, and adjust quickly to hit milestones and maintain profitability — we'll give you the tools and governance to succeed. You'll identify and solve risks early, ensuring the highest safety and compliance standards across all works.
This role will be responsible for overseeing projects across the Midlands and South East of England initially. As the project portfolio grows, there may also be opportunities to support projects across other regions of the UK. Location for this role can be flexible however travel to meet sites/ meet clients will be part of this role so a full driving licence is required.
- Creating and managing a Project Delivery Team to deliver all aspects of the designated project end-to-end, aligning delivery with M Group’s goals and our clients standards.
- Creating a programme and schedule with agreed milestones and managing against that programme
- Creating and agreeing an estimated cost for the delivery of the project and reporting performance against that estimate.
- Ensuring Safe and Sustainable Delivery of Projects to the highest Industry Standards
- Liaising with key stakeholders, partners and National Grid to enable successful delivery of the project.
- Agreeing and managing against a set of KPIs as appropriate for the project and reporting performance against those KPIs
- Mentor and motivate your team, driving collaboration, quality, and environmental excellence — we'll invest in your leadership growth every step of the way.
- You'll build strong relationships with stakeholders, from internal stakeholders to suppliers and subcontractors.
What you’ll bring
- Previous experience leading projects in transmission, high-voltage substations (400kV / 275kV), or renewable generation.
- Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or a related field — and if you have a Master’s, even better.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, grid connections, and commissioning inside out, with a proven track record of delivering major infrastructure on time and on budget.
- Sharp problem-solving with confident decision-making, backed by strong leadership, commercial awareness, and stakeholder management skills.
- Communicate with ease at every level, building trust and collaboration across diverse teams and partners.
