Where will you be working?
We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.
This role will be within our Water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term while protecting the environment.

What will you be doing?
Day to day you'll provide expert health, safety and environmental support to operational teams, helping projects be delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with legal, client and company requirements.
We'll need you to carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety tours to monitor performance, identify risks and drive continuous improvement along with supporting the development and review of risk assessments, safe systems of work and permit arrangements, particularly for high-risk activities.
You'll advise on controls for activities including confined spaces, excavations, buried services, lifting operations, temporary works and work near water and investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, identify root causes and support the implementation of effective corrective actions.
We'll need you to deliver toolbox talks, inductions, safety briefings and awareness sessions to improve workforce engagement and safety performance as well as promoting a positive safety culture through coaching, influencing and behavioural safety initiatives.
You'll maintain accurate SHE records, inspection reports and performance data, supporting audits and compliance activities and review environmental risks and support the effective implementation of environmental management processes whilst building strong relationships with operational teams, contractors and clients, providing challenge, support and visible leadership.
You'll also support the delivery of business objectives, client requirements and annual SHE targets.
What you’ll bring
- Do you have experience within construction, utilities, infrastructure or the water sector?
- Have you got a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, CDM Regulations and industry best practice?
- Do you have experience carrying out inspections, audits, investigations and risk assessments?
- Are you someone with strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels?
- Do you have practical, solutions-focused approach to managing risk and improving performance?
- Are you someone who has excellent attention to detail, organisational ability and report-writing skills along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills?
- Are you comfortable challenging unsafe behaviours and driving positive change?
- Do you have proficient experience in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint?
- Do you hold a NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate?
- Have you got a CSCS Card or SHEA Water?
- Do you hold a Valid UK Driving Licence?
- Have you got great working knowledge and practical application of CDM Regulations 2015?
Desirable Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational Health & Safety.
- IEMA qualification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Incident Investigation training.
- Behavioural Safety or Human Factors training.
- Training or experience in temporary works, lifting operations, excavations, buried services, working at height or other high-risk activities.
