    Where will you be working?

    We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards.  We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

    As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will play a key leadership role within both the Commercial Team and the wider contract leadership team. You will be responsible for driving commercial performance, managing risk and opportunity, and ensuring the successful delivery of commercial objectives across the contract. The role requires the provision of accurate, timely commercial information that supports operational and strategic decision-making.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement commercial strategies that achieve budget targets and maximise profitability.
    • Lead, manage and develop the commercial team, providing direction and support to ensure high performance.
    • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities.
    • Ensure all commercial reporting processes are completed accurately and in line with company requirements.
    • Oversee cost and value reporting across the contract.
    • Act as the primary commercial contact for clients, suppliers and subcontractors, managing contractual, legal and financial matters.
    • Collaborate with operational and technical teams to provide commercial insight and support informed decision-making.
    • Ensure contractual arrangements comply with legislative, regulatory and corporate governance requirements.
    • Continuously review and improve commercial procedures, systems and best practice.
    • Develop and manage project-specific commercial strategies.
    • Work closely with the leadership team to support delivery of the contract's operational strategy.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with client representatives through regular engagement.
    • Ensure robust commercial governance is applied to all tendering activities.
    • Review forecasts, financial performance and contract value reconciliations.
    • Stay informed of industry developments and changes in commercial legislation.

    Skills and Experience

    We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

    • Extensive experience managing the commercial aspects of high-volume, low-value contracts, including repair and maintenance, metering and developer services.
    • Proven success as a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager within utilities, rail, highways or a similar infrastructure environment.
    • Strong procurement, contract and financial management expertise.
    • Experience working with civil engineering forms of contract.
    • A track record of managing subcontractor and supplier relationships.
    • The ability to lead commercial activities on complex, high-value and long-term contracts.
    • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide expert guidance to technical and operational teams.
    • Experience developing and implementing commercial frameworks, controls and governance processes.

    Qualifications

    • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or another relevant construction-related discipline.
    • Membership of RICS, CICES or CIOB is desirable but not essential.
